Chillin with Lear Miller

by Justin Miller

I ran into Lear Miller in January while riding in his hometown of Pheonix, Arizona. I only knew of him through recent videos here on Pinkbike, so I thought I would share some pics and a bit about my days riding with Lear.

I had a serious itch to get out of the snow and do some riding this winter. So I did some research and hooked up with Bob and Andy at Gnar Gnar Tours in Phoenix and they said the consistent 70 degrees weather during the winter made it a perfect get away for us snowbird mountain bikers. He didn’t have to try hard to convince me to plan a trip down there as soon as possible. A short flight from the PNW and I was out of the snow! While there I had the opportunity to ride and film with young and upcoming rider Lear Miller in his home town of Phoenix, AZ. I had a total blast hangin and riding with the boys at Gnar Gnar, but I have to save that for another story.

Meet Lear Miller:

We met up early one morning on the top of South Mountain to ride Geronimo with the Gnar Gnar Tours boys who offer a great MTB shuttle service to the Phoenix area. After taking in the view of downtown Phoenix through the swarm of Saguaro and Barrel cactus I was ready to finally drop in on some zesty desert rippin! Once on the trail I could immediately see that Lear and the boys had it super dialed and knew every line like the back of their hands. It’s always a great time to get to ride with the locals and learn the lines they like the best.

Lear rode every trail hard and fast like a racer, but also with the fluidity and style of a DJ’er. Not only is Lear super chill and fun to hang with, I have to say this kid rips! From DH, DJ, pumptrack to street, he showed no mercy and laid to waste every berm and jump in sight. Lear also can tear apart a few Chipotle' burritos without blinking an eye too.

Lear recently signed with the Geronimo Race team and is currently residing here during the winter months to continue training. Now I know why, Phoenix has a lot of sick riding. Lear’s plans for the year include racing in the Pro GRT and at some of the World Cup Races as well as a few others in between. Watch for Lear Miller at an upcoming event near you! Here’s some pics of Lear I took from my trip with Gnar Gnar tours in Phoenix, AZ. They keep the good times rolling 365 days a year! I will do another full write up about Gnar Gnar soon. In the meantime check out Gnar Gnar Tours at gnargnartours.com to find out more.

Man, AZ has so much stuff to ride if you're willing to be creative. Better learn to build good trails in a hurry though, there aren't too many DH/FR trails, just a bunch of potential. I wish Snowbowl would let bikes up on the mountain, sick vid.

I can't even find words to explain your love of Chipotle. You should be their new poster child! Just do a one handed whip while eating one and that shall win their hearts for sure! HaHa

What is it about Sedona that makes you want to roll rocks down the side of the mountain? Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Must be the vortex........
